The Kidzeum of Health and Science, a children's museum that opened downtown Springfield in July 2018, has entered a period of "extended closure" that could last for several months during the COVID-19 pandemic. New guidelines released by the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity on June 22 directed museums to close hands-on exhibits, which appears to preclude Children's Museums from reopening in phase four of the state's reopening plan.
