Ellen Cassidy, a Brewster High School senior, has discovered that Private Frank Myers, a soldier in the 54th Massachusetts Colored Volunteers that fought for the Union Army during the Civil War, was from Patterson, N.Y., and not from Patterson, N.J. where for generations he was believed to have hailed from. Myers was one of only a few Black men to join the Union Army from Putnam County. Cassidy placed evergreens at the grave of Private Myers Dec. 20, 2022.
