Most of us will be watching the game at home and many others will be gathering in pubs, bars and fan-zones, hopefully safely. We like to think that football is now a game of interest to all the sexes but reality remains that more football fans are men, particularly those football fans who gather together to watch the game. Now experts have suggested men gathering to watch football may be a potential reason why women were nearly a third less likely than them to test positive for coronavirus.
Professor Paul Elliott, director of the React programme from Imperial’s School of Public Health, said the increased probability of men gathering to watch matches may be the reason for the imbalance in infections - mixing inside more frequently than they usually would.
The study , which tested men and women in two rounds this year - saw women have a 30 per cent reduced odds of testing positive.
