Preston has seen another sharp increase in its coronavirus case rate which has put the city in the top three worst-affected areas of England.
View email online | | | | | Sep 11, 2020 | | | | | | Good evening - thank goodness it's Friday. So another weekend in these strange Covid times and no changes to the extra restrictions imposed in those areas where infection is at its highest - which here in Lancashire is Preston. Nationally the ‘Rule of six’ has been imposed after it has become all too clear that the trend is upwards and as Lancashire’s Director of public health pointed out yesterday, community infection is responsible. As Preston is currently third in the league table nobody wants to join - of the worst levels of infection - it’s not surprising restrictions haven’t been lifted and more surprising they haven’t been strengthened further. But it is not just Preston which has a problem - rates are up in South Ribble, in Blackpool, and just about everywhere else too. cannot ignore that fact. As Lancashire County Council’s Angie Ridgewell pointed out yesterday - Covid will be over by Christmas - we just don’t know which Christmas. We could be in response mode for 18 months. It’s a hard reality to stomach but not as hard as losing everyone we know and love from a virus. Don't forget we share all the latest news via a live blog on the website.
