SCRIPTURE OF THE DAY 2 Nephi 31:9-12
And again, it showeth unto the children of men the straitness of the path, and the narrowness of the gate, by which they should enter, he having set the example before them. And he said unto the children of men: Follow thou me. Wherefore, my beloved brethren, can we follow Jesus save we shall be willing to keep the commandments of the Father? And the Father said: Repent ye, repent ye, and be baptized in the name of my Beloved Son. And also, the voice of the Son came unto me, saying: He that is baptized in my name, to him will the Father give the Holy Ghost, like unto me; wherefore, follow me, and do the things which ye have seen me do. QUOTE OF THE DAY Howard W. Hunter
“Are we prepared to surrender to God’s commandments? Are we prepared to achieve victory over our appetites? Are we prepared to obey righteous law? If we can honestly answer yes to those questions, we can bid fear to depart from our lives. Surely the degree of fear in our hearts may well be measured by our preparation to live righteously—living that should characterize every Latter-day Saint in every age and time” (“An Anchor to the Souls of Men”, BYU Devotional, February 7, 1993). TODAY IN CHURCH HISTORY March 27, 2021
1836 - The Kirtland Temple, the first temple completed in this dispensation, is dedicated by the Prophet Joseph Smith. The dedicatory prayer was given by revelation and recorded in Doctrine and Covenants 109. Angels were seen by some in the Temple during the dedication and all witnessed the power of the Spirit. That evening, during a meeting of the Priesthood quorums, great manifestations took place. The Prophet Joseph recorded, “. . . a noise was heard like the sound of a rushing mighty wind, which filled the Temple, and all the congregation simultaneously arose, being moved upon by an invisible power; many began to speak in tongues and prophesy; others saw glorious visions; and I beheld the Temple was filled with angels . . . The people of the neighborhood came running together . . . seeing a bright light like a pillar of fire resting upon the Temple, and were astonished at what was taking place. This continued until the meeting closed at eleven p. m.” (History of the Church, 2: 428). For More Church History, Click Here!
