| 30/September/20 | US: GMO Bt crops on the chopping block due to insect resistance In an effort to stave off above-ground insect resistance, the EPA is proposing phasing out many current Bt corn hybrids, as well as some Bt cotton varieties, in the next three-to-five years. Essentially, all Bt corn hybrids and cotton varieties that don't include Syngenta's Vip3A protein, the lone Bt trait on the market without documented insect resistance, are being considered for a national phase-out. DTN Progressive Farmer; comment by GMWatch Cibus’s canola: The mysterious origin of the mutation In September 2020, a scientific article provided an open-source method to detect a mutation induced in a GM canola by the company Cibus. The subsequent communication from Cibus is surprising: the description of its genetically modified canola suddenly changed, rejecting the previously announced oligonucleotide-directed mutagenesis as the origin of this rapeseed. Might this be a way for Cibus to open a window to escape GMO regulations in Europe?
