There are the immense untold centuries of the past, the weight of the past which confronts the future which is unknown, a blank wall of which you know nothing. You translate the future in terms of the past, and therefore you think you know, but you do not actually know. And that is the central issue for one who has really thought, really felt deeply, asked questions that are unanswerable.
