Daniels vaults in Heisman odds

Does LSU quarterback Jayden Daniels have the Heisman Trophy within his grasp after Friday's Pac-12 Championship Game?

The oddsmakers in Las Vegas say that's a resounding yes.

Washington beat Oregon 34-31 in Vegas, with Washington quarterback Michael Penix beating out Oregon's Bo Nix, the consensus Heisman favorite entering the game.

The final stats: Penix was 27 of 39 passing for 319 yards, one touchdown and one interception. He also had four carries for a net minus-4 yards. Nix was 21 of 34 passing for 236 yards with three touchdowns and an interception. He also had six carries for 69 yards (including a 44-yard run) and a fumble that the Ducks recovered.

Daniels isn't the only LSU player chasing down a major college football award.

His top target, Malik Nabers, has made winning the Biletnikoff Award his quest. You could say, his obsession.

Our Wilson Alexander takes us inside his determined bid for the prize.

While Nabers tries to decide if he will definitely play in LSU's bowl game, one Tiger will not. Cornerback Laterrance Welch is the latest Tiger to enter the transfer portal.

It was a big, loud, exciting night in the PMAC Thursday, as the LSU women took down No. 9 Virginia Tech 82-64. Perhaps even bigger than that result was the return of star LSU forward Angel Reese, who afterward revealed that she spoke every day during her four-game exile with former LSU great Shaquille O'Neal.

Oh yeah, it was also an historic win for LSU coach Kim Mulkey, who became the fastest coach in men's or women's college basketball to 700 wins.

Speaking of men's basketball, LSU beat SLU in the PMAC Friday night, but it was a less-than-stellar 73-66 result. No one getting too excited about men's hoops at this point.

Meanwhile, yours truly is in Atlanta for Saturday's SEC Championship Game between Georgia and Alabama. I've got a column on how Alabama strangely finds itself in the role of party crasher, four keys to the game (which we cleverly call Four Downs) and my score prediction on the game.

We'll find out more Monday about the Heisman after voting closes at 4 p.m. CST, when the top four vote-getters get invited to New York for next Saturday's Heisman ceremony. You expect Daniels, Nix and Penix will be the top three, with the fourth spot up for grabs. We'll have all the Heisman coverage for you from now through the moment the winner is announced next Saturday night.
