temporary pavilions give architects and designers a chance to experiment with unexpected forms, concepts and materials. in china, LIN architects' deep red timber pavilion examines architectural archetypes such as the primitive hut or sacred church. another timber construction, this time in belgium, floats on 15 pontoons and explores the thin line between dream and trauma.

meanwhile, don't forget to keep an eye out for this year's serpentine pavilion, which will open to the public on june 10, 2022, in london's kensington gardens. designed by chicago-based artist theaster gates, the 2022 pavilion is titled ‘black chapel’, and will present a sanctuary-like environment for reflection and communion.
