dear designboom reader, sir david alan chipperfield has been awarded the 2023 pritzker architecture prize. for the prolific architect, good architecture provides a setting that can invigorate lives. he restored the bucolic charm of a 16th-century building in venice. he conveyed the passage of life at the inagawa cemetery in japan through an extensive stair. he repurposed a former hospital in germany into the new headquarters of a family-run company. the civic architect, urban planner, and activist says that designing is about developing a series of questions and ideas which have a certain rigor and consequence to them. ‘And if you can do that, it doesn’t matter which path you go down, as long as you go down the path well and have been consequential in the process.’ thanks for reading! matthew burgos | editor |
