Dear designboom reader, Bamboo, as a natural material, takes center stage in recent architecture. It’s the foundation of Yasmeen Lari’s community center at the Venice Biennale 2025, who spoke with us about the installation that marks Qatar’s first participation at the Giardini. Even Boonserm Premthada showcases bamboo’s materiality by using upcycled, handwoven bamboo baskets around the Elephant Food Shelter at Triennale Milano. Speaking of baskets, they help with rainwater and fog collection, as seen in Canalside Studio’s installation in Hong Kong. In the same region, Romain Jacquet-Lagrèze captures how workers use bamboo as scaffolding to help with their work. Thanks for reading! Matthew Burgos | Editor |
