More details have emerged on the transition of Lafayette’s largest extended stay hotel, which has served as a safety net for families struggling with the shortage of affordable housing. Even before a contract was signed with the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, Woodspring began evicting guests, records show. Contract documents obtained by The Acadiana Advocate show that the contract to lease the WoodSpring Suites on Hugh Wallis Road wasn’t signed by both parties until Aug. 7, a week after the hotel’s operator had already begun evicting residents.
