Mnuchin: Loan misuse could bring criminal liability Companies that made false certifications to receive Paycheck Protection Program loans will face consequences, US Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin warned, stating, "Anybody that took the money that they shouldn't have taken -- one, it won't be forgiven, and two, they may be subject to criminal liability, which is a big deal." Several professional sports team owners have pledged to continue paying game-day workers who lost their jobs amid the pandemic, but many of these workers -- employed by third-party contractors that provide services to venues -- say they are not being paid.
