Good morning, Marketer, is the air out of the AI bubble? Maybe ChatGPT wasn’t that big after all? It’s easy to see why people might think that. For one thing, Bing’s search engine marketshare is the same now as it was before Microsoft added the generative AI engine. For another, a Pew study found that even after all press attention only 18% of Americans have used it. So, clearly it was overhyped, right? Well, yes but no. Nothing, not even the second Big Bang could live up to the buzz around AI. However, ChatGPT’s impact was never going to be mass market — the average consumer doesn’t have much need for those capabilities. They will, however, benefit from gen AI’s impact on how we do business. It makes processes and analysis easier, faster and more accessible, which means lower costs for the producer and the buyer. It is revolutionizing things, but not in a way most people will notice. What they will notice is the products and processes it develops and/or improves. Constantine von Hoffman, Managing Editor |
