Last Sunday, CBS’s 60 Minutes aired a powerful segment highlighting new threats to children from generative AI (GAI)-powered technology. Host Anderson Cooper sat down with NCMEC’s Chief Legal Officer Yiota Souras who shared the heartbreaking truth about how GAI is being weaponized to exploit children. Tools like “Nudify” apps are being used to create hyper-realistic images of children appearing nude.
The risks don’t stop at images. GAI is also being used to manipulate children in other ways, such as generating realistic text prompts that predators use to groom or exploit victims.
"Nudify" apps represent a new frontier of child exploitation, one that requires proactive solutions and collective action. Over the past two years, NCMEC’s CyberTipline has received more than 7,000 reports related to AI-generated child exploitation.
