UPTOWN UPSET: After years of watching the proliferation of “doubles to dorms” in Uptown New Orleans neighborhoods near Tulane and Loyola universities, residents have started tracking the conversion of “D2Ds” on social media, calling out real estate developers and demanding that City Hall and the universities do more to limit the practice. SEX EDUCATION: Richard Herzog was 15 and a student at Archbishop Shaw High School, and Nancy Hernandez was 22 and his English teacher when, Herzog says, they started having sex. In a previously unreported claim against the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of New Orleans, Herzog alleges that Hernandez groomed him to have sex, in her car and at her home, for 18 months. Hernandez is now the principal of Lutheran High School in Metairie, which praises her “exemplary” career and says it is reviewing the allegation. MATERNAL MORTALITY: Louisiana has gained national attention for its high rate of deaths among pregnant women. But because the state has changed its reporting methods, to try to capture more of the deaths over a longer period of time, the latest data on 182 deaths paint a murky picture of progress.
