Little while back, a friend and I debated the value of a free-plus-shipping book funnel: “Craig,” he said, “I feel a free book offer will attract the wrong customer. It won’t get me the 7-figure business owners who want to build a personal brand. I want to try something different.”
“I understand your concern,” I said, “You think free will just bring ‘freebie seekers’. But free content (or very low cost content) is how most people get into every guru’s world.”
Whether it’s a ‘free appearance on TV’, a YouTube video, or a free book, we all tend to start somewhere.
“Think about it,” I told my friend...
“How did you first find out about me, or Grant Cardone, Tony Robbins, Mel Robbins, Jason Capital, or Bedros Keuilian? It was probably a free video, post, or book.
“Some of my best clients ‘meet me’ through my free email newsletter or YouTube videos…
"I’ve had 1-on-1 clients reach out and sign up for 4 and 5-figure coaching packages after seeing a LinkedIn post that resonated… or getting a free copy of my Perfect Day Formula book.”
The point I was making to him is…
Being ‘too good for a free + shipping (F+S) book offer’ is like refusing to offer a free report that appeals to your perfect customers… because it might attract some of the wrong people.
If readers are leaders, and leaders are readers, then you need to stop overthinking and do everything you can to get your book into people’s hands.
Not only do I often offer my books on a F+S model…
I have also mailed thousands of copies of my books, for FREE out to people that I knew...
As well as thousands of my Perfect Day kits — which are over a $40 investment every time I send one out as a gift to a friend or prospect.
Yet my ROI on these investments is positive.
For example…
I recently sent a kit to a prospect (a young up-and-coming superstar in the fitness industry)…
And a couple weeks later he signed up for private coaching.
Maybe you’re thinking…
“But Craig, I haven’t written any books to give away.”
Well then you’re going to love this:
A couple years ago, I made over $10K in coaching sales after investing $2500 to send out hundreds of copies of OTHER people's books to roughly 300 people in my network.
I started with Ben Hardy’s Willpower Doesn’t Work…
And then I sent out Ed Mylett’s #MaxOut Your Life too.
(If you do this, just make sure to include a personal note with each book saying it’s from you.)
Sending books allows you to stay in front of people and give them a reason to contact you.
As Grant Cardone says…
“The success of your project is determined by how much attention you can get for it.”
And you’ll get the most attention when you get your books, videos, reports, products, etc. in front of as many people as possible.
The Law of Reciprocity works my friend.
Ignoring it is like ignoring the Law of Gravity...
And that never turns out well ;)
So get out there... and get giving.
Success Loves Speed,
Craig
