We’re one week into Pride month, and I’ve been enjoying reading stories from LGBTQ writers and creators on HuffPost and elsewhere. This story from HuffPost Personal drew me in: My Dad Never Wanted Me To Be One Of 'Those Gays.' Then He Asked Me To Put Him In Drag. Blake Mitchell, a corporate diversity and inclusion professional and drag performer and activist, writes about how — though his dad did support him when he came out — he was cautioned against being one of “those gays” who dresses in drag or marches in the Pride parade. Earlier this month, homemaker and YouTuber Aly Drummond went viral for proposing a career alternative for women: She suggested that they find a husband, not a job. “You need a man to hire you for it, but that’s OK,” she said. “Because if you think about it, you submit to your boss who makes you clean stupid shelves at your retail job, right? Wouldn’t it be better if you were cleaning your own shelves at home? And your boss wants to sleep with you, in a good way.” Unsurprisingly, the internet had a lot to say. |
