Double J takes you back to the Big Day Out all October
I've been trying to think of my favourite Big Day Out memory, but I'm not sure I have one. I loved the circle pit that Andrew W.K. started in 2011. Being in the presence of The Stooges in 2006 was particularly special. Seeing Neil Young at every show in 2009 was a treat I will never take for granted. Björk's set in the face of 30,000 Rage Against The Machine fans in 2008 was inspiring and powerful (not to mention really, really beautiful). And Snoop Dogg ruled, as Snoop Dogg does, in 2014. The more I think about it, though, the more I feel like the music wasn't even the best part of the Big Day Out. My friend Matt introduced me to the Modern Lovers as we drove to the festival in 2003. A chance meeting with old friends turned 2008 into a bigger party than any of us expected. Having exhausted D&Ms with friends while sitting on the grass, waiting for the final band, was inevitable most years. Everyone's Big Day Out memories are different. We're sharing as many of them as we can this month. Thanks for sharing yours with us. |
