Dear reader, Architecturally speaking, Toronto is a soup of sorts—an amalgam of styles from cities like Chicago, New York and London. As a result, we end up with buildings that are fine, sure, but they almost never feel distinctively ours. Toronto often tries to integrate new buildings into old neighbourhoods, yielding all manner of hideous faux château and post-modern atrocities. Still, sometimes, the imperative to chase styles in the name of harmony results in something uniquely Torontonian. Curb Appeal’s top post this week is a stately condo complex overlooking Rosedale Valley. It’s by Hariri Pontarini, a firm that believes in both honouring and augmenting heritage architecture. This condo does that. Its north-facing façade—clad in brick and stone—echoes the scale of the surrounding Edwardian mansions. The rear of the building—taller and defined by glass—takes cues from the modernist giants across the valley. And the thoughtful landscape design brings calm to the streetscape while bolstering the urban canopy. Also in today’s newsletter: A converted Roncesvalles garage renting for $6,000 a month. Plus, a never-lived-in detached in Clanton Park. Visit torontolife.com or subscribe to our print edition for all of our real estate coverage and more. |

What condo overlooking a ravine would be complete without valet and porter service, a private elevator, two balconies, automated parking, custom millwork, a courtyard and award-winning design? | |

| Inspired by industrial renos in Brooklyn, this 2,200-square-foot, three-storey loft comes with exposed brick and beams, a hidden garden, a second kitchen and a huge rooftop terrace. Take the tour. |
