Rats were the 'first curators' at Sydney museum Hyde Park Barracks

 
 

Rat infestations may have been a nightmare for convicts at Sydney's Hyde Park Barracks in the 1800s, but today historians are grateful for the rodents. Scuttering beneath the floorboards, the rats hoarded scraps of fabric, food and personal treasures.
 
Researchers joke that these rats inadvertently became the barracks' first curators.

Rare photo collection reveals snapshot of Sydney's pub life

 
 

For generations of Sydney pub-goers, a Tooth and Co establishment was the place to go for a good time. Few of their properties have survived the years unchanged but the recent digitisation of a long-buried archive has brought hundreds of historical photographs to light.
"I loved the "old style" pubs, they were a unique form of architecture." said Rene on Facebook.

When Corey Tutt was in year 10, his careers counsellor told him he would never succeed in science and that he could either pick a trade, end up in jail or die. Now he is working to ensure Aboriginal kids like him get all the opportunities they could possibly want.
