Don’t panic yet about F1 events being cancelled

We live in strange times and if there’s one thing I’ve come to rely on, it’s that plans can get changed at short notice – and don’t believe everything you read in social media! So I welcome the Automobile Club de Monaco’s clarification that it firmly intends to run this year’s Monaco Grand Prix as planned after rumours to the contrary.

Of course, anti-Covid measures mean that regional or national lockdowns can crop up any time, just like the UK is experiencing at the moment. But Formula 1 has proved its own protocols are very effective, so promoters and local governments can put their faith in its 2020 track record on that front.

As we edge closer to getting the public vaccinated, there’s a lot of reasons for optimism over the coming months – which must be tempered with observing guidelines. For a street circuit venue, Monaco is surely the best-policed and organized, whether there’s a limited crowd to allowed in or to be kept out.
