Last month the West Indian Ocean Cable Company’s network experienced disruptions that affected the internet in Burkina Faso and Somalia, as researcher David Belson observed. Belson, who works for DNS provider Oracle Dyn, reports regularly on disruptions as they occur around the world, everywhere from Mexico to Cambodia, Portugal to The Gambia. The reasons aren’t obvious—to figure out why the internet is down, researchers have to delve into geopolitics, natural disasters, and technology troubles.
As cloud native developers swarm Seattle for KubeCon, learning more about how best to work with Kubernetes and container-related technologies (more on that next month), it’s useful to remember that the internet itself is not something we should take for granted.
