Good morning Valued Subscriber,
The working week begins with a lot of public service news this week, as Eleanor Campbell delivers an exclusive report on sex discrimination rife in the public service. She reveals Australia's human rights watchdog has received multiple reports of suspected positive duty breaches in federal workplaces since new sexual harassment laws came into force. Meanwhile, Miriam Webber has the news some of the federal public sector's most senior bureaucrats rallied against a "rushed" rule change which would curtail their access to compensation payouts, introduced just days before Mike Pezzullo was sacked. Elsewhere in the APS, a mass exodus at a small independent agency in the Attorney-General's Department resulted in it losing two-thirds of its staff in 2023, reports Connor Pearce. And as always on a Monday morning, our public service team is also bringing you the latest in water cooler discussion points in the Public Eye column. In education news, Sarah Lansdown details the sudden resignation of the executive principal at Brindabella Christian College.
It's also time to say au revoir to the Paris Olympics as the closing ceremony unfolds. We finished with our best yet overseas medal haul of 53, and 18 gold, leaving us fourth on the medal tally. The warmer (by Canberra standards) winter weather continues as we get down to 1 degree overnight and hit a top of 18 later in the day. Enjoy your week, Victoria Lee, producer |
