Meta says it will take years to make a profit from generative AI

Tech companies big and small are throwing huge sums of money at AI development

Meta boss Mark Zuckerberg has said that going all-in on generative AI will be “a very good long-term investment” for the business, but admitted that it will take some time before it starts to generate profit, The Verge reported.

Zuckerberg was speaking to investors about Meta’s first-quarter earnings report that saw its broader business generate net income of $12 billion on $36.5 billion of revenue for the quarter.

“Historically, investing to build these new scaled experiences in our apps has been a very good long-term investment,” Zuckerberg said, adding that Meta's AI goals are a "larger undertaking than the other experiences we’ve added to our apps, and this is likely going to take several years” to achieve ...

The OLED Movink is Wacom's thinnest and lightest pen display yet

The device is being touted as the first OLED pen display tailored for creative professionals, digital artists, and design students

Wacom’s new Movink display comprises a 13.3-inch Samsung OLED display and the Wacom Pro Pen 3, Lifewire reported.

The Japanese company’s first OLED display tips the scales at 420 grams and measures 4 millimeters at its thinnest point, making it the slimmest and lightest of all of Wacom's pen displays and therefore highly portable.

The $750 Movink display uses Corning Gorilla glass to minimize scratches and delivers 10-bit color, a contrast ratio of 100,000:1, and a perfect black point thanks to the exceptional qualities of OLED technology. “Creators can expect rich, deep blacks and exceptional color accuracy, optimized to offer 100% DCI-P3 and 95% Adobe RGB coverage,” the company said ...

Inside the Disney Imagineering HQ and the tech behind the company’s parks

New robots and an omnidirectional treadmill-like floor are among its newer innovations

The Hollywood Reporter takes us on a tour of the Disney Imagineering headquarters in Glendale, California, which develops the technology behind Disney theme parks, attractions, cruise ships, and resorts.

Some of the current innovations include the treadmill-like HoloTile Floor that tilts and pivots as you walk on it, and various robots that include a knee-high droid (pictured) with antennas, speakers, and LED arrays for eyes.

Asus ROG Ally update brings smoother, better performance

The ROG Ally is currently the only handheld with support for AMD’s Fluid Motion Frames (AFMF) technology

Asus is updating the ROG Ally handheld with AMD’s AFMF technology in a major boost for the gaming device, Digital Trends reported.

AFMF is essentially a driver-level take on frame generation that artificially generates extra frames to make the frame rate higher and works across all DX11 and DX12 PC games to boost performance, TechRadar said.

Although AFMF is now technically supported on the ROG Ally, it requires enabling to make it work globally or on a per-game basis. The new feature works well in some titles, but doesn’t always produce the best quality.

AFMF is not yet available in the Command Center, but it's working on integrating it in the future ...
