How AI is fueling uncertainty among game developers

Some think AI could be a boon for game development, while others aren't so sure

The video game industry has suffered waves of job losses since the boom period of the pandemic, with many designers and developers continuing to fear for their jobs.

A new BBC report has taken a closer look at the situation, including at how gaming giants like Electronic Arts and Ubisoft are increasingly investing in new AI technology from Nvidia that it claims can save development time and allow workers to focus more on creativity.

But many of those working on creating new games fear that video game companies will use AI to cut costs by downsizing. And for those that remain, the worry is that rather than creating their own material, artists will end up supplementing AI's efforts ...

YouTube Music’s new feature can identify songs from humming

It's had limited availability, but is now rolling out across iOS, Android

YouTube announced on Monday that it’s finally rolling out a new tool that lets you discover the name of a song by singing, humming, or playing a part of it, TechCrunch reported.

When you select “search” in the app, you’ll see a waveform icon that means you can find the name of a song by singing, humming, or playing it. This is different from the popular Shazam app, which only responds to actual music tracks.

YouTube is also experimenting with an AI-generated conversational radio feature that will be available first for select Premium users in the U.S. It lets you create a custom radio station by describing the kind of music that you’d like to listen to ...

Flock review: Relaxing nature game will turn you into David Attenborough

‘Flock is a breezy delight that captures the joys of birdwatching with comedic charm’

Digital Trends’ review of Flock describes the new game as “such a charmer” for the clever way in which it “takes the quiet joys of birdwatching and places them into a low-stakes exploration game about identifying weird wildlife.”

The work of Hollow Ponds and Richard Hogg (Wilmot’s Warehouse), Flock  is a multiplayer co-op game where players take on the role of flying shepherds, each tending to their own unique herd of adorable flying creatures.

Digital Trends’ review is largely positive, praising the game's picturesque world and quirky creatures. However, the flying process was found to be “a bit too simple,” and the story ended rather abruptly ...
