Hands-on with HTC’s new Vive Focus Vision

HTC's Vive Focus Vision is a lossless PCVR headset with eye-tracking and standalone capability

Digital Trends has gone hands-on with HTC’s newest headset to find out what if offers and if it’s worth the $999 asking price.

The in-depth review praises the Vive Focus Vision for its lossless tech at 2448 x 2448 resolution, and for the way that eye-tracking animates avatars. The tethered device also offers decent mixed reality with 16MP passthrough, while a microSD slot expands storage to up to 2TB. Downsides include visible artifacts that mar high-contrast images, an average gaze input system, and a headset that’s big and bulky.

The Vive Focus Vision targets location-based multiplayer VR entertainment venues and some PCVR users, but you should “look elsewhere for standalone VR,” the review says ...

Google Pixel 9 review: 'Better than ever'

The company has finally addressed some of the Pixel series' negative points

Google’s Pixel 9 smartphone looks like a winner — for the most part — in this Digital Trends review.

The new handset is lauded for its excellent design and build quality, impressive camera, tactile haptics, and improved efficiency and battery life, among other things. But it’s not perfect, with drawbacks including slow charging, a screen that doesn’t get quite as bright as you might like it to get in normal outside conditions, and a price tag ($799) that’s higher than its predecessor at launch.

Google devoted much of the phone’s launch event talking about its AI smarts, and Digital Trends' review also takes a close look at these ...

Focal’s first wireless speakers are a tech tour de force with a price to match

The Diva Utopia floor-standing speakers feature built-in amplification, a wireless link, and lots of music source options

Focal’s new speakers are 47 inches tall, and linking the left and right sides is an ultra wideband (UWB) wireless connection capable of transmitting up to 24-bit/96kHz lossless hi-res audio "with imperceptible latency."

But if wireless isn't your thing, or your audiophile tastes insist on the highest sampling rate possible, Focal includes a 5 meter (16.4 feet) hi-res connection cable, which increases the transmission quality.

Take note: Focal's speakers cost an eye-watering $39,000. Still, If they suit your needs and you have the available funds, ordering information can be found at Focal Powered By Naim boutiques.

Joker: Folie à Deux all set to be this weekend's hit movie

Meanwhile, The Wild Robot is expected to perform well again

Making its debut this weekend is Joker 2, officially titled Joker: Folie à Deux. This time around, protagonist Arthur Fleck (Joaquin Phoenix), the psychotic anti-hero of 2019’s Joker, is feeling upbeat thanks mainly to his new paramour, Harley Quinn, played by Lady Gaga, Box Office Pro reported.

Joker: Folie à Deux is forecast to make up to $50 million at the North American box office, with The Wild Robot taking up to $20 million on its second weekend, and Beetlejuice Beetlejuice taking up to $12 million on its third weekend.

Look out for White Bird, too, a wartime drama that’s received warm reviews and also appears in Digital Trends' list for best movies of this year ...

Palworld is coming to mobile despite Nintendo lawsuit

Palworld maker Pocketpair is pressing on with the game's expansion

Palworld will continue its global dominance after its maker, Pocketpair, inked a deal with Korean video game publisher Krafton to bring the popular survival game to mobile, Digital Trends reported.

Krafton said it will not simply port the game to mobile, but instead reinterpret it for mobile platforms through a licensing agreement. PUBG Studios, a subsidiary of Krafton (the main team behind PUBG: Battlegrounds), will be handling development.

The news comes soon after Pocketpair was hit by a lawsuit from Nintendo and The Pokémon Company claiming that the smaller developer has infringed on multiple Nintendo patents with its Palworld game ...
