Intel's Lunar Lake chips set to shake up laptop AI performance
The more powerful processors should give laptop graphics a boost
Ahead of IFA this year, Intel has announced its new range of Core Ultra Series 2 processors, also known as Lunar Lake. The chips feature an integrated GPU with up to 8 cores, 64 vector engines, 8MB of cache, and support for DirectX 12 Ultimate, making them powerful enough to play games at 1080p with medium graphics settings. Intel says that a new range of laptops armed with the chips will have faster processing speed and improved AI performance, with benefits seen in already announced laptops like a new flagship Dell XPS 13 with a huge improvement in battery life. |

I went hands on with the Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold
Is this the phone to bring foldables to the masses?
With the launch of the Google Pixel 9 series, foldable phones are finally becoming less of a expensive proof of concept and more something that regular people might actually buy. But as tempting as the Pixel 9 Pro Fold looks on paper, what is it actually like to live with the device? Our senior mobile editor Joe Maring spent 48 hours with the Pro Fold and noted its great hardware and beautiful display, though it was heavy to hold and the cover screen is attractive but awkward to use. Read all about his first impressions ahead of a full review of the device. |

Maybe AI can help us understand what people on TV are saying
DTS Clear Dialogue aims to help make dialogue more comprehensible
Between compression used by streaming services and changes in the way sound is recorded, many people have found that dialogue on TV is getting harder to understand. Now, surround sound company DTS wants to help make dialogue easier to understand using AI with its new DTS Clear Dialogue feature. This option, to be added to future smart TVs, uses machine learning to identify the speech parts of a soundtrack which viewers can then turn up separately, distinct from background sounds and other noises. It is expected to start appearing on smart TVs from next year. |

Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom fuses new and old
We got to preview the new game and we're excited for more
The much-anticipated follow-up to The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is coming out later this month, and our gaming team has played a 90 minute preview of Echoes of Wisdom. With its top-down style and classic design, it harks back to old school Zelda games, but it also adds a new twist with its item copying ability. This is the first Zelda game to star the titular princess, and it emphasizes puzzle solving and creative thinking rather than basic combat. Though the system has some quirks, Echoes of Wisdom is a return to form for the series and we're excited for the September 26 launch date. |
