Dear fellow South Carolinians, Thank you for subscribing to my weekly e-newsletter, and please remember to follow me on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and YouTube. You can also listen and subscribe to my new podcast on YouTube, Spotify, and Apple Podcasts. Supporting Nonprofits: Last week, the Senate unanimously passed the Protecting Nonprofits from Catastrophic Cash Flow Strain Act, which I introduced along with Senators Sherrod Brown (D-OH), Ron Wyden (D-OR) and Chuck Grassley (R-IA). This bipartisan bill would allow nonprofits to receive their CARES Act relief funds ahead of their unemployment payments, rather than being reimbursed afterward. By freeing up much-needed money, this will allow our nonprofits to better serve the American people during the COVID-19 crisis. We rely on many of our nonprofit organizations now more than ever, and I am glad Congress is providing them with the necessary tools to help those in need. You can read more about the bill here. Upcoming: National Defense Authorization Act South Carolina is home to eight military bases and thousands of brave service members and their families. As a proud South Carolinian and even prouder American, I am committed to supporting those who keep our nation safe, often at the risk of their own lives. Congress is currently working on the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2021, which will provide funding for our military institutions and the military families living here in South Carolina and across the country. America remains strong and secure because of these individuals, and I look forward to supporting them in return through this legislation. COVID-19 and Resources: As businesses continue to open and testing continues to increase, we are seeing an increase in coronavirus cases across the country, South Carolina included. In the coming weeks, it is crucial that everyone take this threat seriously and work together to protect one another. How we conduct ourselves now will determine whether our kids go back to school (and our favorite college football teams get back on the field) this fall. So, please, remember to wear a mask and follow social distancing guidelines when out, wash your hands thoroughly, and – critically – stay home if you are feeling ill. I talk about some of these steps in my latest Two With Tim video, which you can view on my Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter. If you are feeling ill, click here for information from the South Carolina Department of Health on tele-health options and testing locations. More information on resources for South Carolinians is also available on my website. Over the Independence Day weekend, I reflected on how much our nation has accomplished in the last 244 years. I am confident that, just like the struggles of our past, we will overcome the threats of this virus by working together. Sincerely, Tim |
