Opera for beginners, SSO Arabella Steinbacher plays Lentz, Umberto Clerici on Breakfast and more
| | | Most of us don't have perfect pitch, so we can't name the sounds we hear. But one recent study found that, for many of us, our ability to sing in tune and at pitch is better than we think — thanks to the quirky phenomenon of earworms.
An earworm might be a song you recently heard, a particular song that tends to spring to mind when you’re bored or a piece of music you've been focused on studying recently.
Learning music involves a full brain work-out and once you form a musical memory, it is hard to forget.
To test how strong musical memories are, a team of researchers from the University of California San Diego recruited 30 participants who agreed to receive prompts several times a day to record information about their earworms. What they discovered may be great news for people who think they can't carry a tune.
