EU set to take actions against money laundering and terrorist financing

Next week will be an important week in the fight against criminal and terrorist abuse of the financial system. On Wednesday law enforcement and bank associations across Europe will publish the fifth-year results of the European Money Muling Action (EMMA). As part of its MoU with Europol, the European Banking Federation has been supporting European police forces and prosecutors to catch undermining money laundering schemes and the so-called mules that are being used. In addition more than 20 countries, through police forces and bank associations, will raise awareness about money muling with an multi-language communications campaign. For the first time this year, the FBI is joining the campaign. On Thursday 5 December, EU leaders will meet for the Ecofin meeting in Brussels with EU anti-money laundering policy high on the agenda.
