FROM THE MEDIA Bloomberg: EU banks expand risk scenarios with climate change European banks are building out their risk models to better prepare for the fallout from climate change, as reported by Bloomberg. New areas of concern include business liquidity as well as interest-rate risk in the banking book. Read more FT: SNB calls for overhaul of banking regulations The Swiss National Bank (SNB) has called for a review of banking regulations as it warned that existing global rules on capital and liquidity do not safeguard systematically important lenders from collapse. According to the Financial Times (FT), the report proposes that Swiss banks set a higher minimum level of assets. Read more Reuters: BoE hikes rates to 5% in a surprise move The Bank of England (BoE) raised interest rates by a bigger-than-expected half a percentage point after it said there had been "significant" news suggesting British inflation would take longer to fall, Reuters reports. FROM THE INSTITUTIONS ECB: Central clearing in turbulent times Central counterparties must adapt their risk management strategies in the face of heightened economic and financial uncertainty, says European Central Bank (ECB) Executive Board Member Fabio Panetta. Public authorities must also consider adjusting the related regulatory and oversight framework. Read more BIS: Sharon Donnery: climate risks and the banking sector Sharon Donnery, Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Ireland discussed ESG integration in the banking sector in a speech published by the Bank for International Settlements (BIS). "For banks, this means focusing on how you integrate climate and environmental risk into your business models, strategies, and risk management practices," he says.
