REACH

Webpage on revocations launched

Under certain circumstances, companies can permanently or temporarily lose their REACH registration numbers. Registrations may be revoked or otherwise become invalid for different reasons. When this happens, the company is no longer allowed to manufacture or import the substance in the European Economic Area (EEA).

ECHA also implements sanctions adopted by the Council of the European Union following Russia’s unprovoked military aggression against Ukraine. We will freeze the REACH registrations of companies and individuals listed by the EU sanction legislation.

Testing proposals

We have launched 40 new consultations on testing proposals. Give your comments by 21 July 2023.

There are currently 49 open consultations on testing proposals.

Board of Appeal

Appeal against a compliance check decision mainly dismissed

Case A-001-2022 concerned an appeal against requests for information on mutagenicity, toxicity testing on fish, and degradation testing concerning the substance 4,4'-(9H-fluoren-9-ylidene)bis(2-chloroaniline).

In reaching its decision, the Board of Appeal was required to give its interpretation on several provisions of the REACH Regulation. Of particular note, the Board of Appeal provided clarity on the applicable version of test guidelines registrants must follow when conducting studies required under REACH to generate information on intrinsic properties of substances.

EFSA call for data: migration and occurrence of plasticisers in food and food contact materials

European Food Safety Authority is looking for data on phthalates, structurally similar substances and replacement substances migrating from or occurring in food contact materials. In addition, data collection on the occurrence of plasticisers in food is also ongoing.

Both calls are open until 31 August 2023. If you intend to submit migration or concentration data, express your interest to data.collection@efsa.europa.eu preferably by 30 June 2023.

OECD: people willing to pay a significant amount to avoid chemicals-related health effects

The OECD has published new willingness-to-pay (WTP) values covering five health effects: infertility, chronic kidney disease, very low birth weight, asthma and IQ loss. According to surveys conducted in 22 countries, people are e.g. willing to pay on average almost 100 000 dollars to avoid infertility and over one million to avoid very low birth weight.

This OECD project, which ECHA took part in, establishes internationally comparable WTP values to measure the socio-economic benefits of reducing chemical risks. For REACH, these values are important in restrictions and applications for authorisation.
