The OECD has published new willingness-to-pay (WTP) values covering five health effects: infertility, chronic kidney disease, very low birth weight, asthma and IQ loss. According to surveys conducted in 22 countries, people are e.g. willing to pay on average almost 100 000 dollars to avoid infertility and over one million to avoid very low birth weight.
This OECD project, which ECHA took part in, establishes internationally comparable WTP values to measure the socio-economic benefits of reducing chemical risks. For REACH, these values are important in restrictions and applications for authorisation.
