Revamped C&L Inventory now in ECHA CHEM

Our redesigned Classification and Labelling (C&L) Inventory is now available in ECHA's new chemicals database, ECHA CHEM. It comprises information on over 4 400 EU-level harmonised classifications and seven million classifications notified or included in REACH registrations. In total, the inventory includes data on approximately 350 000 substances.

Read our news for more details and join our webinar focusing on the new Classification and Labelling Inventory on 27 May 2025.

REACH

Updated guide on dossier evaluation

The updated practical guide 'How to act in dossier evaluation' explains how we follow the updated test guidelines when examining the compliance of REACH registration dossiers.

It also clarifies the requirements and conditions for taking tonnage band downgrades and other new information into account during the dossier evaluation decision-making.

Testing proposals

We have launched new consultations on 12 testing proposals.

The deadline for comments is 1 July 2025.

CLP

New intentions to harmonise classification and labelling

Two intentions have been submitted for:

  • N-ethyl-N-[2-[1-(2-methylpropoxy)ethoxy]ethyl]-4-(phenylazo)aniline (EC 252-021-1, CAS 34432-92-3); and
  • Morpholine (EC 203-815-1, CAS 110-91-8).

Biocides

Our Biocides Committee backs approval of anticoagulant rodenticides

Our Biocidal Products Committee, in its May meeting, adopted eight opinions supporting the renewals and approval of anticoagulant rodenticide substances – with certain use-specific exceptions. It also adopted five opinions on Union authorisations.

Read our news and listen to the latest episode of our Safer Chemicals Podcast, with the committee chair Joost van Galen, for more details.

Consultations on potential candidates for substitution

We have published a consultation on potential candidate for substitution:

  • 3-iodo-2-propynylbutylcarbamate (IPBC) (EC 259-627-5, CAS 55406-53-6, product-types 7 and 9).

Have your say until 14 July 2025.

Send your questions to our experts in advance.

Key areas of regulatory challenge: research needs and opportunities

Our webinar on 19 June 2025 at 11:00-13:30 (Helsinki time), will explore, for example, the importance of:

  • recycling non-fossil materials for Europe's circular economy;
  • protecting freshwater and groundwater ecosystems; and
  • the link between endocrine disruption in humans and the environment.

Experts from ECHA, the European Environment Agency (EEA) and European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) will join the discussion and the subsequent Q&A session.

Board of Appeal

Amendments to the practice directions to parties to appeal proceedings

The Board of Appeal has decided to remove the requirement to submit paper copies of documents in most cases. This will lighten some of the administrative burden and costs placed on the parties involved, as well as reduce the environmental footprint of appeal proceedings.

The decision amending the practice directions and a consolidated version incorporating the amendments is available on ECHA's website.
