On World Humanitarian Day, 19 August, we thank humanitarians everywhere from committed supporters like you to UNHCR staff in the field who dedicate their lives to helping others. One such humanitarian is Kinyera David Jada, who knows first-hand what it’s like to flee conflict and survive on humanitarian aid. Now, he’s returned home to South Sudan with UNHCR to help rebuild his community.

Thousands of women have been widowed by the devastating conflict in Mosul. In Hammam-al-Alil camp, more than a quarter of women have lost their husbands, who in many cases were sole breadwinners in the family. These women are left to raise their children alone in an uncertain world. Here, Asmaa shares her story of becoming a war widow.
