Manchester United to make final offer for Gareth Bale

Manchester United will make a last big attempt to sign Gareth Bale from Real Madrid in the final week of the transfer window and hope to resolve the David De Gea situation at the same time, sources have told ESPN FC. United have a long-standing interest in Bale, which goes as far back as Real's interest in De Gea, and feel they can now finally leverage the situation to their advantage. Until this point, though, there has been no indication that Real would sell Bale but that has not diminished United's motivation.

Lancaster names England World Cup squad


Stuart Lancaster has named his 31 man squad for the Rugby World Cup. Rugby League convert Sam Burgess made the final cut, whilst there was no place for Luther Burrell. Ben Morgan was also chosen ahead of Nick Easter for the final back-row spot, despite only playing 40 minutes since he broke his leg in January.

Bolt beats Gatlin again in 200m to secure double gold

Usain Bolt took Gold in the 200m at the IAAF World Championships in Beijing, crossing the line ahead of American Justin Gatlin just as he did in the 100m. Bolt clocked a world leading time of 19.55 seconds to win his 10th world title.
