Manchester named Britain's Greatest Sporting City 2015

Manchester has beaten out London to be revealed as the greatest sporting city in the UK, according to research from ESPN and the universities of Gloucester and Bath. Manchester topped the ranking after scoring highly in most of the 12 factors, which included value for money, success, atmosphere and transport links. London, host city for the 2012 Olympics, came in second while Glasgow - which staged the Commonwealth Games last year - finished third.

Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere appears set for another extended stay in the treatment room, amid reports that he has suffered a fracture to his leg ahead of the new season. A hairline fracture to his fibula could keep Wilshere out of the first six to eight weeks of the upcoming campaign.

Murray's US Open preparation off to worst possible start


Andy Murray, suffered a shock defeat in his first match on the US Hard Courts this season. The Scot went down in three sets to Russian Teymuraz Gabashvili, who is ranked a lowly 53rd in the world, in the second round of the Citi Open in Washington.
