A few weeks ago some changes to our board were announced by our Trade and Tourism Minister, Senator the Hon Don Farrell, and last week these changes came into place. We are very pleased to welcome Jenny Lambert OAM, the Hon Michael Lee, Tim Yeend and Peter Laurance AO to the Tourism Australia (TA) team. Our new board, who will meet for the first time this week in Sydney, will be led by serving members Penny Fowler who has been appointed Chair, and Ian Horne who has been appointed Deputy Chair. On behalf of the whole TA team, I would like to pass on a heartfelt thank you to our departing board members, our Chair Michael Issenberg, Deputy Chair Jeff Ellison, John Hart, and Annabel Dolphin for their service and contributions. They led Tourism Australia through some of the most tumultuous times our industry has ever seen, and their quiet, constant and practical guidance was invaluable to me and my team.
Last Friday we held our final industry webinar for 2024. The webinar included an update from myself along with Nishant Kashikar, Tourism Australia’s Country Manager for India who provided an update following the recent launch of Tourism Australia’s ‘Summer of Cricket’ campaign and CEO mission to India. We were also joined by special guest Keely Cat-Wells who was recently in Australia and with International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPwD) taking place this week we took the opportunity to have her join us. Watch the recording here. Thank you to all who tuned in to the webinars throughout the year. I trust you found the content helpful. We will return in the new year so please keep your eye on our Essentials newsletter for registration details.
Also, on Friday I attended the Canberra Region Tourism Awards, which was the last of the state tourism awards which have run right across the country. At Tourism Australia we are very proud to have sponsored all these awards, and as always, they are a reminder of how lucky we all are to be part of such a smart, dynamic, and collaborative industry. Congratulations to the winners and finalists across the country, and we look forward to the 40th anniversary of the National Australian Tourism Awards which will be held in Adelaide on Friday 21 March next year.
