Peter Gilmore’s restaurant Quay in Sydney featured at #95 on the 51-100 list announced last week. The prestigious list is created from the votes of The World’s 50 Best Restaurants Academy, an influential group of almost 1,000 international leaders in the restaurant community. | International influencers get a taste of Australia The world’s top 50 chefs, international media and the Awards Academy Chairs will explore Australia’s world class food and wine as part of a country-wide famil’ program taking in some of the best culinary experiences. Overall, 160 individual famils have been organised by Tourism Australia in partnership with Australia’s State and Territory tourism organisations. “Through these first hand, authentic experiences, they will share our Restaurant Australia story beyond these shores, helping to inspire new audiences of travellers and lovers of great food and wine to follow in their foodie footsteps,” said Tourism Australia Managing Director John O’Sullivan. | The Chefs' Feast On Tuesday night, ahead of the highly anticipated awards ceremony, 200 guests – including the Top 50 chefs and their guests, 26 Academy Chairs and sponsors – came together to enjoy a beachside dinner at West Beach Bathers Pavilion on Melbourne’s St Kilda Beach. The Chefts' Feast showcased some of Australia’s best produce cooked by seven of the country’s top chefs: Jock Zonfrillo, Kylie Kwong, Lennox Hastie, Martin Benn, Peter Gilmore, Shannon Bennett and Analiese Gregory. | The Great Aussie Brunch After an evening celebrating at the awards, 180 guests including visiting chefs, Academy Chairs and international and domestic media attended the ultimate outdoor brunch on The Rooftop at QT Melbourne. The theme for this year’s brunch is All-Star Yum Cha in celebration of Australia’s multiculturalism and Asian influences. | South Australia hosts Awards Academy Chairs The group of media and influencers who oversee the voting panels for the prestigious World’s 50 Best Restaurants awards, known as The World’s 50 Best Restaurants ‘Academy Chairs’, arrive in South Australia today for a two-day itinerary with the support of Tourism Australia and the South Australian Tourism Commission. The 26 Academy Chairs, will experience the best of the region’s vineyards in the Adelaide Hills and Barossa Valley, meet with local producers and South Australian chefs, and dine in some of the state’s best restaurants as part of their two-day annual general meeting.
