Tourism Australia Activity Team Australia strengthening ties in India
This week Tourism Australia’s Managing Director, Phillipa Harrison, led a senior delegation of Australian tourism and business events leaders. The group have travelled to India to meet with key stakeholders in the market for the four day mission. The delegation, which includes CEOs from state and territory tourism organisations and state convention bureaus will visit New Delhi and Mumbai from 11-14 November to meet senior officials from Air India and IndiaGo, and key distribution partners including MakeMyTrip and Thomas Cook. The trip is aimed at further strengthening ties with the key partners in India, which has been one of the fastest markets to recover since international borders reopened in 2022, with arrivals from the market to Australia exceeding pre pandemic levels.

ABS Short Term Arrivals September 2024The Australian Bureau of Statistics latest short term arrivals numbers show that in the 12 months to September 2024 international visitation to Australia was at 86%, compared to the same period in 2019. This is up slightly on 85% the month before. South Korea and India remain the markets outperforming pre-pandemic levels. South Korea is at 132%, compared to 2019, while India is at 107%. These markets have been helped by an increase in aviation capacity to Australia. In terms of the largest markets overall New Zealand has consistently been the largest visitation market. China, which is a year behind in its recovery and only back to 60% of 2019 levels, remains the second largest inbound market. |
