| | Taking the contrarian view on commodities This week’s round of features on ETF Express brought you Robert Minter of abrdn, who took a look at the likely effects on commodities from the US election, and also shared his contrarian view on gold. Minter says that it has ‘taken investors by surprise’. "What is really difficult is getting across to people why and how did it get to USD2,700?" he says. We also talked to fintech prime broker Clear Street’s Thomas Bonville this week, a a 26-year veteran in equity derivatives and current head of derivatives sales at the firm. "We have made a big push in the ETFs that use swap-based products which include some short funds or levered long funds. The rules for swaps have changed so if you do not have a diversified basket or if you need leverage, you must use swaps," Bonville says. "Most of the products out there in single stocks are levered on both the long and short side." And it is these types of funds that could be arriving on European shores in the near future, with the partnership announced between HANetf and ACA Group, designed to enable US issuers who face the diversification requirements of Europe’s UCITS structure to launch in Europe. ACA Group’s Jason Knight explains all in our interview with him. Both HANetf and ACA Group are winners in our popular ETF awards’ series and you can see the list of winners who attended our event last week in New York. Many congratulations to all our winners. The event’s special report will be published by the end of next week. <br We are also pleased to bring you a discount for a London-based responsible investment conference. This code, ETF20, will gain you a 20 per cent discount on tickets to attend RAO Global’s symposium on 21st November in London. The event details are here.
