Unstable world drives growth of the defence and uranium sectors

This week we bring you our latest Off the Record podcast and live recording of an interview with Tom Bailey of HANetf and Axel Belorde of VettaFi who discuss the drivers behind the huge growth in defence ETFs and uranium ETFs. Listen here as the pair outlines the issues that lie behind their various specialties.

Our inaugural Japanese ETF awards are moving through our awards’ process and have arrived at the final voting stage. Please place your votes for your favourite issuers and service providers in the ETF industry in Japan by following this link.

Voting closes on the 25th of July and the event itself will be held at the Tokyo Stock Exchange on 4th September.

We picked up on Dr Christian Jasperneite, CIO, Private Asset Management, MM Warburg, and his calls for a rethinking of index construction at this year’s IMPower Fund Forum and asked him to explain further. In our In My Opinion column this week, Jasperneite writes that in the world of investing, few things are as taken for granted as the dominance of market-capitalisation-weighted indices.

“But in a world undergoing dramatic shifts, it’s time to question that logic. Market capitalisation reflects the past, not the future. And increasingly, this backward-looking measure is steering portfolios into dangerous territory,” he writes. Read more here.

And this week we bring you the latest global digital asset review, compiled by CoinDesk Research Lead, Joshua de Vos, and in partnership between CoinDesk, Trackinsight and ETF Express.

De Vos writes that June saw a deceleration in digital asset investment activity, with USD6.03 billion in net inflows, down 17 per cent from May’s USD7.33 billion, according to TrackInsight data.

“While the total remained robust, the moderation in pace reflected a broader slowdown in market momentum, marking the first deceleration since March,” he writes.
