| ETF assets reach over USD7 trillion Assets in global ETFs went past the USD7 trillion milestone this week, with ETF data providers ETFGI reporting that August saw an extra global net inflow of USD55.18 billion, bringing year-to-date net inflows to USD428.25 billion. This was the 15th month of net inflows and the majority of money flowed into equity products, the firm says. We also have the World Gold Council marking the ninth consecutive month of inflows into gold ETFs, albeit at a slower pace as macro effects have slowed down the flight to the yellow metal. The ETF industry continues in its apparently unstoppable rise to dominate asset management at all levels. We have an interview this week with Nottingham, a US fund administrator which is poised to launch a Blue Tractor semi-transparent ETF, in the new structure that throws down a further gauntlet, this one aimed at the mutual fund industry. Kip Meadows, founder and CEO of Nottingham, explains that he believes the future lies in ETFs, and in the active kind at that. Terry Norman, Blue Tractor founder, is arguing that semi-transparent ETFs will wipe out the mutual fund industry at the etfLIVE North America digital summit in October. Our next interview is with Laurence Black, index industry veteran who has launched The Index Standard, a portal for all things index. Not all indices are created equal, Black says, with the aim of guiding his users through the ins and outs of the very structures that underpin the ETF industry. We have closed the voting now on the ETF Express US ETF awards and are poised for the big awards’ night on 1 October. Registration is open for our etfLIVE North America digital summit and a big thank you to Joe Anthony of Gregory FCA who interviewed me about our event – do watch that video here, and do register for the event here – investors go free!
