Happy Sunday! It's been another busy week of travel news and next week will be even busier as Americans get ready for the big Fourth of July holiday. I'm predicting that next Friday will break the TSA's all-time single day record of screened passengers. ☔ Central America heavy rains Summer weather continues to cause problems and United Airlines issued a travel waiver for Central America through June 27. This travel waiver allows for voluntary changes for travel to, from or through the airports listed below: • Belize City, BZ (BZE) • Guatemala City, GT (GUA) • Liberia, Costa Rica (LIR) • Managua, NI (MGA) • Roatan, HN (RTB) • San Jose, Costa Rica (SJO) • San Pedro Sula, HN (SAP) • San Salvador, SV (SAL) • Tegucigalpa, HN (XPL) ✈️ ACK-LGA A lot of smooth travel is based on luck and my family and I got lucky this week when our JetBlue flight from Nantucket to LGA on Friday arrived 10 minutes early. But yesterday, that same flight sat on the tarmac, waiting for clearance for hours before they eventually canceled it, seven hours later. Ugh. That hurts. 🗞️ Travel news, tips and videos If you read all of my week's travel tips (below), you might notice that there's no Friday tip. That's because I was busy playing with my kids and my brother's kids on the island of Nantucket. We played whiffle ball and went to the beach. Perfect summertime cousin fun! Photo below:
🦞 Nantucket If you've never been to Nantucket before, especially in the summer, you're missing out on one of the best islands in the USA. One of the reasons it's so special is because it's so safe. In other parts of the country and world, you wouldn't even think about leaving your suitcases in your unlocked car with your bags inside. But there, my brother and neighbors even keep their car windows down, which is, sadly, unfathomable to me. 🏛️ Why I canceled our epic, multi-country trip to Europe Last week, I promised I would tell you why I had to cancel our epic, multi-country trip to Europe. Here's the story. 🌎 Travel Trivia Question of the Week If you subscribe to my Daily Travel Tip newsletter, then you already know this week's trivia question: What is the largest desert in the world? If you gave me 10 guesses, I probably wouldn't have gotten it. Can you? Scroll down to find the answer at the bottom. |

👨⚕️ Monday Dr. Oz rescues JetBlue passenger with what he calls ‘the best drug we use’ When I read this headline: “Heroic moment Dr. Oz comes to the rescue saving a passenger suffering a medical emergency in the middle of a flight,” I thought this must have been an old story but I checked the date and after reading the story, I realized the incident had just happened. Here's the story and tip. |

🧳 Tuesday ‘Everyone makes fun of me for how I pack’: Data scientist shares genius packing list that impresses even Google I’m an organized packer. I think I can confidently say that. I start packing well in advance of any trip, never leave it until the last minute and do everything I can to avoid the dreaded panic-packing. You know – when you’re running around like a lunatic throwing just-in-case nonsense into your suitcase with just minutes to spare before racing out the door to get to the airport. Here's the story and tip. |

🧳 Saturay Pack like a pro: Your smart summer packing guide I’m often asked about how to save time and money when you travel and one of my best money- and time-saving travel tips is to pack light. When I first started traveling, I was one of those people who took a huge suitcase and packed everything but the kitchen sink. But when I observed business travelers just cruising in and out of airports with a small bag, I realized I was packing all wrong. So this summer, as you prepare for vacation, here are some tips to help you travel smarter. |

📺 Travel Videos of the Week Jimmy Kimmel features Johnny Jet in his opening monologue for all the wrong reasons I knew something was going on when my phone and direct messages started lighting up yesterday. All the messages had variations of the same the subject line: Jimmy Kimmel and Johnny Jet. I was hoping that the late night show host had given my website, JohnnyJet.com, a plug but after watching the clip, I realized it was pretty much the opposite of a plug. Watch the video here. Hilarious: EasyJet passenger mistakes two-hour delay for arrival An EasyJet passenger made the internet laugh when he mistook a two-hour delay for his arrival in Croatia. Ouch. That hurts! Here's the story and video.
Disgusting: Man filmed clipping his fingernails on flight I really don't know what's wrong with people but can we all just agree that this is unacceptable airplane behavior? Watch the video here.
Another reason not to pee in a swimming pool As if people needed another reason not to pee in a swimming pool, this reason might actually make them get out and use the loo. Watch the video here.
Brilliant: Why can’t all elevators be as smart as this one in Asia? I’m always in a hurry and most of the time, to a fault. And sometimes when I’m in a hotel, I’m not only in a hurry to get to my room but I’m not completely paying attention. When that happens, I’ve occasionally pushed the wrong floor in the elevator. Most of the time, it was for the floor I was staying on at my previous hotel. That's why I wish all hotels had elevators like this one. Watch the video here. |
