Kardashing outta here
I'm not ashamed to admit it: I've spent the past 14 years keeping up with the Kardashians.
But now, after 20 seasons of mindlessly watching the Kardashian family berate each other in HD, the time has come to bid farewell to the juggernaut that propelled Kim and krew to superstardom as "Keeping Up With the Kardashians" will air its final season in 2021.
Love 'em or hate 'em, you've gotta admit the first family of reality TV kept us entertained.
From Kris Jenner's unforgettable words of encouragement during Kim's 2007 Playboy shoot to Kourtney reminding her sister, hysterical over losing a diamond earring, that "Kim, there's people that are dying," I can't imagine what pop culture would be like without their contributions.
But why pull the plug now? Like many things, it all comes down to cold, hard cash.
It turns out the family had been talking about “what the end of their show looks like” for “three or four years” before announcing its demise this week. “It’s been a long time coming,” a source told Page Six.
And when the Kardashians toyed with the idea of leaving the network in the past, E! was able to reel them back in with a generous paycheck, but this time around, E!’s parent company, NBCUniversal, has been too hard hit financially by COVID-19 to offer them bigger bucks. Even more appalling? Just how different the Kardashian-Jenners looked when the show first premiered in 2007. Lip injections, breast implants, Botox and face-lifts, oh my.
Meanwhile, Kanye West has been receiving injections of a different kind. The rapper, 43, tweeted Tuesday from the hospital, where he was receiving injections of “cortisone mixed with a wittle sprinkle of lidocaine" due to “too much texting bro." Sounds like he'll be the face of an anti-texting PSA in the next few years.
But back to the ladies: This surely won't be the last we see of the Kardashians on TV because fans of "The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills" are already clamoring for the 64-year-old Jenner to join the cast of the Bravo show.
Sadly for me, Andy Cohen doesn't think it'll ever happen.
"I don’t think [Jenner] would do it. She is leaving a show for which she has total control over,” he said on SiriusXM’s “Radio Andy.” “Why would she leave and join a show that she has no control over? She wouldn’t be an executive producer of the show. She wouldn’t have control over the edits. I think for someone who is used to having so much power of a show, I can’t see her surrendering that power."
A girl can dream.
Drinking of you fondly,
