Cruise control
Tom Cruise just gave the performance of his lifetime.
The actor, 58, proved just how seriously he's taking COVID-19 safety protocols while filming “Mission: Impossible 7” when he unleashed a 3-minute-long, profanity-laden diatribe at workers who broke the rules.
"They’re back there in Hollywood making movies right now because of us. We are creating thousands of jobs, you motherf—ers," he shrieks in audio obtained by The Sun.
The "Top Gun" star was apparently incensed after witnessing two crew members standing less than 6 feet apart at a computer. “I don’t ever want to see it again! Ever!" he rants before warning, “If I see you do it again, you’re f—ing gone ... And if anyone on this crew does it, that’s it — and you too and you too. And you, don’t you ever f—ing do it again.”
“We are not shutting this f—ing movie down! Is it understood?” he screams before saying, “You can tell it to the people that are losing their f—ing homes because our industry is shut down. It’s not going to put food on their table or pay for their college education."
While his on-set screeching is hard to hear, he's not wrong, according to his famous friends.
"I get it," Whoopi Goldberg explained on "The View" shortly after the audio leaked. "You can get a new camera operator — no disrespect to camera operators. You can get a new sound man. But if [Cruise] is looking over and he can see you not doing what you’re supposed to be doing, it’s kind of like a little bit of a middle finger, in my opinion.” And even George Clooney seemed to understand, in part.
“I wouldn’t have done it that big. I wouldn’t have, you know, pulled people out,” Clooney added. “You’re in a position of power and it’s tricky, right? You do have a responsibility for everybody else and he’s absolutely right about that."
I miss the movies as much as the next person, but some staffers felt that working with Cruise was truly a mission impossible after he exploded in a second rant.
“The first outburst was big but things haven’t calmed since. Tension has been building for months and this was the final straw. Since it became public, there has been more anger and several staff have walked,” a source told The Sun. “But Tom just can’t take any more after all the lengths they have gone to just to keep filming at all. He’s upset others aren’t taking it as seriously as him. In the end, he’s the one who carries the can."
Stardom in the time of coronavirus is indeed a risky business.
Drinking of you fondly,
