Trump Administration: Exchanges 'Still Open for Business' Despite Judge Invalidating Entire ACA

The final day of open enrollment for 2019 will carry on Saturday, as planned, CMS Administrator Seema Verma said, despite a federal judge ruling Friday evening that the entire ACA is invalid.

The judge sided with Republican state attorneys general who argue that the ACA's individual mandate became unconstitutional when Congress zeroed out its penalty and that the rest of the ACA is inseparable from its individual mandate.

President Trump celebrated the ruling in a series of tweets, calling on Congress to enact a replacement for the law. But the administration said it is waiting for the completion of an appeals process expected to reach the Supreme Court.

The administration's move to continue enforcing the status quo brushes aside some concerns that the administration could seize on an opportunity to immediately abandon ACA-backed programs. Read the full story...
