Regional Roundup
Question of the Week
Tuesday we asked: Earlier this month, the Worcester Planning Board approved a plan by Roseland Residential Trust to tear down the Notre Dame des Canadiens church in favor of a $30-million residential complex, all but dashing the hopes of the church's long-time supporters who believe the facility is an important part of the city's cultural heritage, despite being unoccupied for years.
What is the best way for a city to maintain a unique identity?
  • Renovate and use for other purposes.
  • Remember the city's industrial growth and strong impact to history. Going along with a previous poll, old buildings should remain with intentions of repair. The construction of the new buildings in the city, specifically the downtown area, do not have a strong result outlook. The same is said for restaurants and businesses. With the new influx of creative space openings, before we start promoting a new available space, let's support the still growing organizations until they're successful enough to need a new organization to begin.
  • There's a reason Notre Dame des Canadiens church is empty. Times change. Holding on to everything historical is pointless when the souls have left the building. Let it go. Let something new take its place. Embrace the future.
