| Wir freuen uns sehr, einen neuenKünstler in der Galerie zu begrüßen. Ab 15. Mai stellen wir rund 15 Werke des in München arbeitenden Fotografen Daniel Kraus aus. Ausgehend von Einzelaufnahmen von städtischen Architekturen, Pflanzen und Objekten erschafft er mit den digitalen Mitteln der Spiegelung, Drehung und Überlagerung völlig neue Formen und Bildwelten. Was auf den ersten Blick spielerisch erscheint, wie ein digitaler Trick, um uns die Welt aus einer anderen Perspektive zu zeigen, ist in Wahrheit ein akribischer Prozess der Aneignung und Metamorphose, bei dem der Künstler die ursprüngliche Fotografie inhaltlich umdeutet und zu einem Symbol für etwas ganz Neues und Artfremdes macht. In New York, London, Lissabon, Venedig und München entdeckte Daniel Kraus Bürohäuser, barocke Kirchen, Brücken - spannende urbane Situationen für seine Transformationen. Hinter der Wahl seiner Motive steckt jedes Mal eine intellektuelle Erwartungshaltung im Hinblick auf das mögliche Ergebnis. Manchmal ist es das Detail einer Fassade, manchmal ein berühmtes Monument wie das Flatiron Building, das ihn fesselt. In seiner Arbeit ‚The Visitor‘ verwandelt der Künstler dieses Wahrzeichen von New York mit seiner schlanken, in den Himmel strebenden Silhouette durch wenige formale Eingriffe in ein monumentales Raumschiff, das sich wie in einem Science Fiction Film unaufhaltsam auf den Betrachter zuzubewegen scheint. Die an sich neutrale Architekturfotografie gewinnt eine überraschend cineastische Wirkkraft und Dynamik, und auch die ikonographische Lesart ändert sich grundlegend vor dem Hintergrund neuer Assoziationsketten zu Blockbustern wie ‚Independence Day‘ und ‚Interstellar‘. Das Flatiron Building zeigt sich nach Daniel Kraus Anverwandlung nicht mehr nur als Ikone moderner amerikanische Hochhausarchitektur, sondern als ein Symbol für den amerikanischen Patriotismus auf der Kinoleinwand. Durch Spiegelungen verändern sich die Proportionen. Elemente geraten ins Bildzentrum, die ursprünglich eine Nebenrolle spielen wie in seinem Werk ‚Stations‘, das wir als Motiv für die Einladungskarte gewählt haben. Daniel Kraus arbeitet in Serien. Alle Werke basieren auf einer selektiven und auf Strukturen konzentrierten Betrachtung der Umgebung. In jeder einzelnen Arbeit geht es um die Freiheit, aus den Gegebenheiten, neue Formen zu erschaffen und ikonographische Inhalte zu überdenken. Daniel Kraus (geb. 1966 in Augsburg) lebt in München. Als Werbefotograf arbeitet er in den Bereichen Produktfotografie, Mode und Portraitfotografie. | We are very pleased to welcome a new artist to the gallery. Starting May 15, we will be exhibiting 15 works by Daniel Kraus, a photographer working in Munich. Starting with single shots of urban architecture, plants and objects, he creates completely new forms and pictorial worlds using the digital means of reflection, rotation and superimposition. What at first glance seems playful, like a digital trick to show us the world from a different perspective, is in fact a meticulous process of appropriation and metamorphosis, in which the artist reinterprets the original photograph in terms of content and turns it into a symbol for something entirely new and alien. In New York, London, Lisbon, Venice and Munich, Daniel Kraus discovered office buildings, baroque churches, bridges - exciting urban situations for his transformations. Behind the choice of his motifs,each time there is an intellectual expectation with regard to the possible result. Sometimes it is the detail of a facade, sometimes a famous monument like the Flatiron Building that captivates him. In his work 'The Visitor', the artist transforms this New York landmark, with its slender silhouette reaching for the sky, through a few formal interventions into a monumental spaceship that seems to move inexorably towards the viewer, as if in a science fiction movie. The architectural photograph, neutral in itself, gains a surprisingly cinematic impact and dynamic, and the iconographic reading also changes fundamentally against the backdrop of new chains of association to blockbusters such as 'Independence Day' and 'Interstellar'. After Daniel Kraus’transformation, the Flatiron Building no longer appears merely as an icon of modern American high-rise architecture, but as a symbol of American patriotism on the big screen. Through reflections, the proportions change. Elements come into the center of the picture that originally play a secondary role, as in his work 'Stations', which we have chosen as the motif for the invitation card. Daniel Kraus works in series. All works are based on a selective observation of the surroundings, focused on structures. Each individual work is about the freedom to create new forms from the circumstances, and to rethink iconographic content. Daniel Kraus (born 1966 in Augsburg) lives in Munich. As a commercial photographer he works in the fields of product photography, fashion and portrait photography.
