Buck wild: Hunters have a change of heart Sport hunting is a cherished American pastime, and few animals are more prized to a hunter than the noble stag. A stagâs antlers are its only natural defense, and are often saved as trophies and decorations. Antlers also have a tendency to make life more difficult for these animals. A perfect example happened right on the cusp of hunting season in central Michigan, when a group of hunters encountered two stags locked in mortal combat. The animalsâ antlers had become entangled with one another, and the stags would have died of hunger or exhaustion had they been left alone. But the quick-thinking hunters had other ideas. Using a branch cutter, the hunters sawed off the tangled bits of antler and let the beasts escape. Hilariously, these stags would have been highly prized as trophies â but hunting season didnât officially open for a few more days. I guess these are the ones that got away. Humans may think theyâre master hunters, but they have nothing on birds of prey. Click or tap for a literal birds-eye view of a falcon on the hunt. â |
